Perhaps, it might seem to be a little bit boring that I will try to confirm from now on.
“What is the main model of chip music has been produced in the C64 and Amiga scene?”
I must say at first it is “electronic dance music.”
(the name is independent of EDM, that is why I use this term as the literal meaning.)
Of course, chip music has been much inspired by classical music, funk, jazz and hip-hop.
However, if there is no techno or house, the total number of data and the creator of Chip music, it would have been changed at all.
Firstly I would like to confirm this, a vague familiarity.

On the other hand Dub and reggae are few on the whole.
You will be able to enclose the “dance music” them, Today it has been “into dance.”
In the meantime, here it is regarded as a separate stream.
Even in the case of C64, the deliberate development of dub began since the late 1990s finally.
Basically we had to wait for particularly goto80 and Mortimer Twang.
Turning to the machines of the same age of C64, Hirokazu Tanaka a.k.a. Hip Tanaka, a Nintendo sound designer (1980-1999), has been consciously oriented toward reggae from the 80s.
Meanwhile there no C64 musicians like him.
Therefore, there was few possibility that the dub and reggae made with the SID chip were known.
A few experimental cases of C64 Dub Reggae, however, are something more than quirky.
We should be paid more attention to their diversity.

This experimental results are not analyzed at all.
So I bring this compilation out.
More dub for C64 in the future.

NES/FC videogame Wrecking Crew [1985] – Original Soundtrack by Hirokazu Tanaka

The Ferret Show [2012] – Performed by Goto80, Raquel Meyers and Uwe Schenk Band

  1. Wow, thanks for the compliments :)

There was C64-reggae around before too. Not so much dub afaik, but reggae/pop. Danko’s Complications is a bit of a classic. JLD also did a song called reggae (that Disrupt sampled quite recently). It should be possible to find lots more, I think.

But I agree that reggae/dub is not very popular in chip-contexts in general. Btw, I also released pure C64-dub on vinyl in 2001. Papaya Dub on the Papaya 7″.

    • Welcome! Thanks for the comment and info.
As you say, on the occasion of this one I found some reggae/pop tunes before the late 90s.

      Ragga Party (1991) / No-XS
      Reggae and Gero_01 (1992) / Gero
      Raggaroad (1992) / Fozzie

Also I think Danko is a pioneer. He composed some “ragga” songs.
I am interested in some reggae/pop songs released since 1991 (by Danko, JLD, No-XS, etc).
Maybe the year is a turning-point.

      You released C64-dub on vinyl?
Sounds nice. Ah, I didn’t know that. This must be 1st analogue C64-dub release :)

Hi, many thanks for putting this collection together. Going through the HVSC looking for good tunes is an arduous task but at times a very rewarding one.

I just happened to looking for an MP3 of Kribust – U.F.O. Walker after seeing it in 2011 – A Press Space Odyssey demo and stumbled across this awesome collection that you have obviously put a lot of effort into.

    • Hi, I am glad you enjoyed this collection. Also thank you for understanding my intention correctly. HVSC is an irreplaceable archive and many musicians are making SID music today as well. But compared to the hugeness and the long history, there are a few tunes we (could) remember, IMO. So I have compiled compilations according to themes.

2011 – A Press Space Odyssey is an epic work I like. I am a fan of Kribust’s music, and demos he coded besides.
